OK, you read my last blog post and you’re ready for your own blog. What now? Good question! Here’s my short and sweet answer: use blogging software named WordPress on a hosting site called wordpress.com. You can do this by yourself or you can enlist the help of someone like me. (Naturally, I think hiring someone just exactly like me has some advantages but that’s between you and the CFO.)
If you do an internet search for blogging software you’ll find many choices. Examples include Blogger, Squarespace, Movable Type, Typepad, WordPress and others. You could make your selection by embarking on a thorough technical review of all of these packages with detailed comparisons of features and functions. Or, you could make a purely business decision. Over 25 million people have chosen WordPress for their blog. Business blogs that use WordPress include eBay Ink, Carnival Cruise Lines News, Inside Blackberry, SAP.info, The Ford Story, Forbes Blogs, Ben and Jerry’s Blog and many more. Do these facts prove that WordPress is the best blogging software? No, of course not. But they do show that WordPress is a widely used package that has been selected by some of the largest companies in the world. New consultants don’t really have the time for detailed technical reviews when they’re first getting started. WordPress will do the job and it will do it very well.
